IABM (Iterambere ry’Abahinzi-Borozi ba Makera) is a maize and cooperative and started its activities in 2007. IABM has 764 members of whom 65.3% males and 34.7% females. Besides the current members IABM has 1,562 potential members (supplying maize and seeds to IABM). It is primarily engaged in seed Multiplication and maize processing into flour. Among other activities include the supply of production inputs (seeds, fertilizers and pesticides), members training / capacity building, commercialization of maize flour, distribution animal feed from the maize factory, and support members to access bank loans. Apart from the maize value chain, IABM members are active horticulture value chain by producing different horticultural crops including but not limited onions, tomatoes, sweet peppers, peas, cabbages. The cooperative is active in helping members in accessing inputs to grow vegetables but with no support to collectively aggregate and market the members produce as it is the case in its maize business. IABM has realized the need of diversifying its business lines by engaging in horticulture value chain as a cooperative where it ensures coordination of the production and marketing of the members horticulture produce mainly vegetables.
